A Floating Reset: Fjord Sauna, Sausalito

Cold water. Hot sauna. Completely addictive.

We finally made it to Fjord Floating Sauna, and yes, it is absolutely worth the effort it takes to get a reservation.

Let’s start with the obvious. We are not typically the girls jumping into the cold Bay for fun. But when you pair a 55-degree plunge with a 190-degree floating sauna, wrapped in warm wood, clean lines, and uninterrupted views from Mount Tam to Tiburon, your mind changes quickly.

Fjord is floating right on the Sausalito waterfront, and the setting does a lot of the work. You step inside and immediately feel like you are somewhere intentional. It is spa-like but unfussy. Scandinavian without being precious. Design-forward in a way that feels calm, not curated for Instagram (but very much is).

The sauna itself is deeply hot and perfectly scented. They have a signature aroma that gives hotel-meets-spa energy the second you sit down. It smells clean, grounding, and luxury in the best way. You rotate between heat and cold, heat and cold, and somewhere in that rhythm your nervous system finally taps out. You leave feeling clear, energized, and honestly a little proud of yourself. Shoutout to Susannah, our Fjord MVP, for the first cannonball and a very confident eight cold plunges, setting the tone and making the rest of us woman up.

The locker rooms are equally thoughtful. Fjord stocks Botnia products, which feels exactly right for a refresh before you head home.

A very important heads up. Reservations open on the first of every month and typically sell out within hours. Set an alarm. This is not a casual booking situation.

What to bring (learned the right way)

  • Two towels. One for sitting in the sauna, one dry for after. You will want a fully dry cozy towel at the end.

  • A temperature-controlled water bottle.

  • Hot tea for sitting outside on the deck between rounds.

  • A cozy towel or robe for the walk back. Leaving warm matters.

We hit the weather jackpot with a sunny January day, but this place would be incredible in fog, rain, or full winter mood. If anything, moody weather probably makes it better. Oh, and leave the jewelry at home, metals and high heat do not mix.

If you are craving a reset that feels physical, mental, and aesthetic all at once, Fjord delivers. It is challenging enough to feel earned and luxurious enough to feel like care.

Book it. Bring friends. Get uncomfortable. Leave glowing. More details and booking info here: https://www.thisisfjord.com/
