Marin Guides
Welcome to the Marin County Guides by The House.
In these guides you'll find our handpicked selection of places to eat, drink, shop, hike, and explore across Marin's twelve towns. Each one has its own personality, its own rhythm, its own reasons to stay a little longer.
We hope these recommendations make Marin feel like home — whether you just arrived or you've been here for years.
Mill Valley
A small town with a creative soul and an unshakable sense of place. Redwoods, trails, great food, and a community that lives with intention — this is California cool at its most livable.
Corte Madera
The everyday heart of Marin. Tucked between Mount Tam and the Bay, it's practical and beautiful in equal measure — great schools, easy access, and a community that actually shows up.
Stinson Beach
Salt air, surf, shingled cottages, and a beach that makes you forget what day it is. For most people it's a Sunday drive. For the lucky few who live here, it's the whole point.
San Anselmo
Sunny, mostly walkable to some extent, and home to one of the best food scenes in Marin. People move here for the schools and the trails, and stay because it feels like a real town in all the right ways.
Kentfield + Greenbrae
Two quiet communities that share some of the best public schools in California, direct trail access to Mount Tam, and a way of life that's genuinely hard to find. No downtown needed.
San Rafael
The county's biggest city and its most vibrant one. A downtown with real edge, a farmers market that draws the whole county, and neighborhoods ranging from Spanish bungalows to waterfront homes in Peacock Gap.
Muir Beach
One restaurant, no traffic lights, 160 homes, and more coastline than most towns ten times its size. Twenty minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge and completely its own world.
