A Guide to Setting Up Utilities Before You Close

PG&E and internet are the same across the county. Water and garbage change town by town. Here is exactly who to call and where to sign up, organized by utility.

Most accounts can be started with a short call or an online form, and you can schedule the start date to match your closing so service is live the moment you get your keys.

Gas & Electric

Every address in Marin runs on PG&E for gas and electric, so there is no need to check by town. Most residents are also automatically enrolled in Marin Clean Energy, or MCE, for the electricity generation portion of their bill, while PG&E still delivers the power, handles the gas, and manages billing. That enrollment happens on its own when you start PG&E service.

Coverage depends on the exact address more than the town, so it is worth checking all three before committing. Xfinity reaches nearly every home in the county. AT&T Fiber and Sonic Fiber are both expanding but are not everywhere yet.

Provider information here was gathered directly from each utility and district as of August 2026. Districts occasionally redraw boundaries or change haulers, so if a number here does not match what you find in your closing documents, trust the paperwork and give us a call. We are happy to track down the right contact for any address in Marin.
